A lot of superheroes are jerks, really.
By the way, the hero who provided this artwork is The Prankster. Michael Morgan was a magician the vaudeville circuit. One day he happened across a robbery in progress and put on a funny mask he had on hand to stop it. He was so happy with the outcome that he decided to continue fighting crime, using prank devices as his major weapon.
The funniest part of this?
I've found no fewer than three Golden Age heroes with this exact same origin. One of them is even a character in Dynamite Comics' excellent Project Superpowers revamp of public domain superheroes.
