Actually, Lady Luck (a creation of Will Eisner whose stories frequently appeared alongside The Spirit's) is an oddball in the modern comic book vigilante world. When you look at other heroes that have survived into the modern age, Batman became a hero because he wanted vengeance for the death of his parents. Superman became a hero because he was raised to believe in justice for all. Spider-man only became a hero because the point that those with power must use it to do justice was driven home in a very personal way.

Lady Luck got bored and decided to become a crime fighter.

No, seriously, that's her origin. She was a debutante who was in love with the police chief. She got bored and decided to become "a modern Robin Hood," and proceeded to have years of adventures that ranged from hard-boiled The Spirit-esque tales to goofy, pin-up styled romps through crime's sillier side.

Proving that while no super heroes are truly sane, some of them are in it just for the Hell of it.

Oh - and have you checked out my iRiff yet? It's now available in the Rifftrax store for only $0.75! Cheap at twice the price.
