I don't think the world is less wonderful than we were taught it was as kids.

I think we learn not to see the wonder around us.

At least partially because there are people out there who stand to profit from our inability to see wonder.

That's really what I, as a comics reader, got from Bill Waterson and from re-watching movies like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They're not just representations of childhood imagination, they're windows that we can look through to remind ourselves that the wonder of our childhoods still surrounds us. We just have to wake up and look around.
